Diaspore is an aluminum oxide hydroxide mineral that is isomorphous with goethite and dimorphous with boehmite. These minerals exhibit an orthorhombic crystal system and have a very brittle tenacity. Along with Sapphire, Garnet, Alexandrite, and Andesine, it is one of the few color-changing stones.
Diaspore symbolizes strength, determination, passion, purity, innocence, cleanliness, wealth, and wisdom.
Let us learn more about Diaspore.
Diaspore is an attractive and rare gemstone that consists of hydrate of aluminum in crystal form. It is also known as Kayserite, Empholite, or Tanatarite. These stones can open up and balance the crown and third-eye chakra. It helps to promote intuition and foresight, access the inner and spiritual guidance, receive messages from higher beings, and improve wisdom through inner work.
In 1801, Diaspore was first discovered in the Ural mountains of Russia. After its discovery, it was named "Diaspore" from the Greek word "diaspeíreif" which means to "scatter". This name was given by René Just Haüy, a French priest and mineralogist, in allusion to the mineral's decrepitation on heating. The type locality of this mineral is Mramorskii Zavod (Mramorsk Zavod), Kosoi Brod Village, Polevskoy, Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia.
Diaspore typically occurs as a result of diagenesis in bauxite formed by the tropical weathering of alumino-silicate rocks. It also occurs in some alkalic pegmatites as a hydrothermal veins, clay deposits and limestones, and nepheline syenite pegmatites.
The chemical formula of Diaspore is AlO(OH). These stones have a hardness of 6.5-7 on the Mohs scale.
The price of Diaspore can vary anywhere from $50 to $150 according to its color, cut, and quality.
