Bayldonite was named in the honor of John Bayldon, an English Physician, by Arthur Herbert Church, a British chemist, in 1865. Some of the localities where fine specimens of these minerals are found are England, France, Ireland, Namibia, Kazakhstan, Australia, and the US.

Formation Process

Most of the Bayldonites are formed in the oxidation zone of ore deposits. They have a beautiful green color which forms due to the copper content and they also have a high resinous luster which is due to the content of lead in it.

The chemical formula of Bayldonite is PbCu3(AsO4)2(OH)2. It has a hardness of 4.5 according to the Mohs scale and a monoclinic crystal system.
