The official gemstone for the people born in August is Peridot since 1912. It is a quality form of the mineral Olivine. Only a few stones come in one color and it is one of the few stones. Meaning of Peridot

Formation

Peridot is the quality form of olivine and its color varies from yellowish-green to dark-lime green or even black. This gemstone is especially found in the earth's mantle and volcanic rock as it has a high melting point. They are formed only when the Olivine crystallizes. The way of crystallizing Olivine is by putting it in high temperature and pressure.

In 1912, Peridot was declared as the birthstone for the people born in August by the American National Association of Jewelers. It is the best stone for August born people and also for the zodiac sign Leo (July-23 to August-22) and Virgo (August-23 to September-22). The largest cut gemstone (Peridot) in the world is about 311.78 carats which weighs about 62.35. It was found in Zagbargad Island, Egypt. Currently, it is in the Smithsonian Museum, Washington D.C, USA. 

Care and Handling
